Beginning of the Year Newsletter
Dear Parents,
Benchmark testing will be completed by the end of the first week of school and students will be creating their logon information for Big Ideas so that they are able to access their math online.
Both classes will begin the year by taking a short learning style quiz and meeting with partners to identify how each style learns best. Eighth grade will then create a list of resources by learning style to help them be successful in chapter one of their math book. I will include the list on my resource page. Seventh grade will begin the year with a quest to find out how math is used in sports.
After the quest, seventh grade curriculum begins with the concept of positive and negative integers and absolute value. Next, they will learn how to add and subtract positive and negative integers.
After eighth grade completes their learning style activity, they will begin using inverse operations to solve simple and multi-step equations.
Please remind your students that quizzes count the same as homework and are used to ensure that students are mastering the previous material. I reteach whenever necessary. Please feel free to contact me with any concerns or questions.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Ferrians
